5 Steps To Create Your Best Life

Now is a time for new beginnings, as thousands of graduating students step into the next phase of their lives. But whatever your age, you can embrace life’s joys and opportunities when you find the right balance.

What Does Balance Mean to You?
The term “balance” describes everything from financial transactions, weights and measures, to mental and physical well-being. Some people think of life balance as a sense of peaceful calm, while others feel balanced when they can juggle the demands of active children, career and community involvement—all at the same time.

However you define it, striving for balance is worth the effort to create the life you want. Here are some steps to help you on your journey:
  1. Get to Know Yourself
Understanding yourself and what you need is the basis for good decisions and a happy life. What are your values? What people and activities inspire you? What gives you the greatest satisfaction? Knowing yourself helps you to focus on what makes you happy and to align your choices with what is important to you.
  2. Establish and Test Your Vision
Picture the life you want, and write down activities you’d like to pursue, people you’d like to meet, things you’d like to learn, and places you want to visit. Ask your friends and family about their ideas and try out a few of your own. Your test drive will help you fine-tune your plans.
  3. Disconnect and Get Inspired
Once in a while, take time away from distractions and technology and do something that inspires you—walk in nature, practice yoga, meet a friend for coffee, or read poetry. It will help you be more calm, productive and creative.
  4. Choose the Best and Let Go of the Rest
It’s impossible to do everything that is presented to you, so evaluate opportunities based on your broad goals. You may find many things that are “good” for you, some that are “better” for you, and still fewer that are “best.” Choose what supports your goals best, focus on what you can control, and don’t worry about the rest.
  5. Stay Connected to Your Values
When setbacks hit, as they sometimes do, that’s when having a balanced approach to life will benefit you most. You can find comfort in knowing that your core principles and beliefs are constant, even in the face of external changes and challenges.
By establishing your values, visualizing your goals and prioritizing to do what’s best, you take the first steps to achieving balance and reaching your goals.
